Ideal Grooming Habits for Summers

by Alisha Nandy 10 May 2019 0 Comments

Apart from the fun, summers can be quite a pain when it comes to dealing with the heat as it makes you mess up with a number of problems (especially if you are amongst the ambitious ones)  like managing sweat, body odour, oily skin and acne which consume your confidence making you look gimpy.

Well, don’t you worry. This summer, overcome all the mess by adopting some handy grooming habits to step towards a hassle free life along with a dashing look.

  1. Washing your face twice daily

Men typically have an oilier skin if compared to women; producing more sebum which lets all the dirt, pollutants and toxins stick to your skin making your skin dull and prone to acne.

Washing your face twice a day with a good face wash (once in the morning and before going to bed) will help you flush away the mask of dirt off your skin, control the oil secretion and would help keep acne at bay. As a result, brightening your face instead of clogging your pores.

  1. Toning is Key

Toners are the most undervalued product when it comes to men’s grooming. A toner after washing your face will help shrink your pores preventing the dust and particles from accumulating in your skin.

Toners are also suggested after a shave as it prevents the formation of ingrown hair.

  1. Don’t Forget To Moisturize

It is always mistaken that you are not supposed to moisturize since it is hot and humid outside. On the contrary, the heat tends to dry your skin making it prone to infections. A moisturizer helps to hydrate your skin and the moisture acts as a barrier between your skin and the environment. But make sure not to put an oil based moisturizer as it would make you sweat and wipe away all the goodness leaving your skin bare and exposed to the environment and sun. Use a light moisturizer (a water based) which would get easily absorbed by the skin.

  1. A Sunscreen can be a Lifesaver

Since the sun shines so bright and warm during the summer, it’s rays contain enough carcinogen compared to winters to tan your face and cause skin cancer. Applying a broad spectrum of sunscreen (which combats both UVA and UVB rays) to the exposed parts of your body before you step out would work as a shield against the sun’s harmful rays by preventing tanning and other skin issues.

  1. Keep Out Bad Odour

No matter how often you spray a deo, perfumes or cologne, nothing is compared to showers when it comes to getting rid of the body odour and relax at the same time. You generally sweat after a workout and heat. But because of the apocrine glands in certain areas such as your underarms and crotch tend to smell awful. This is as sweat produced in your armpits and groin areas contain protein and when it combines with bacteria found normally on your skin, smells bad. Also, the stickiness of the sweat attracts dirt and germs.

Taking a shower helps you get rid of all the dirt, germs and bacteria that get accumulated in our skin, especially in the armpits, genitals, and groins. Make sure to use a mild body wash / shower gel for a shower to do away with the gunk; but try to go for an intimate wash when you need to wash down there.

  1. Take Extra Care Of Your Hair

As your body sweats during summers, so does your scalp, which in turn can make your hair look gimpy and flat. It also can clog pores and cause dandruff. Wash your hair daily with a mild shampoo which can make your hair look healthy and fluffy. Also try to oil your hair as often as possible as it would help the hair to stay nourished and would repair hair damage caused due to the heat; keep your hair short and trimmed as this would help you manage your hair. Also, make sure to put a serum onto your hair after you shampoo to prevent it from the harmful UV rays, and use a swim cap before jumping into the pool to keep your hair away from the chlorine water.

  1. Keep Your Beard Clean & Moisturized

Your beard works the same way as your hair. You also need to wash your beard regularly with a good beard wash to keep it clean. You should also get it trimmed on a regular basis in order to maintain them and moisturize them using a beard softener.

  1. Regular Exfoliation Goes A Long Way

Sweating causes our pores to open, and hence makes way for dirt to accumulate into our skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week with a purifying scrub helps to clean your pores and removes the dead skin on the surface of your skin, increasing the blood flow leaving your skin glowing and radiant.

  1. Stay Hydrated

The key to summers is to keep yourself hydrated. Make sure to drink 8 ounces of fluid daily to keep going with the heat.

How easy are these steps? Embrace the summers by adding these steps to your daily routine.
